December 24th: South Pole Update

My dad called yesterday with an update for the last few days. December 24th Position: S 88:23.3 W 75:37.0 Distance to the South Pole: 179km Richard sounded upbeat on the phone, the team covered 34km yesterday and 36km on Christmas Eve (in 9.5 hours) The bad weather seems to have finally stopped! Warmer weather has finally arrived, although the skiing conditions remain hard: big sastrugi and bumpy conditions are slowing the pace a bit, however the team is happy to not have any whiteout for Christmas day smile I spoke with Chris De Lapuente on the phone yesterday as well - he is back in Punta Arenas (Chile), at the hospital, safe and sound smile The expedition should reach the South Pole within the next 4 to 6 days! That's all for now. Tessum
