Weber Route from Pond Inlet to Clyde River, Baffin Island by Ski & Kite
This is one of the most spectacular routes in the Canadian Arctic. Please see previous trips for a detailed description 01.1.1.8 Weber Route from Clyde River to Pond Inlet, Baffin Island
This journey is from Pond Inlet at the North end of Baffin Island to Clyde River travelling with skis and kites. This trip leaves Pond Inlet in late April. The prevailing wind is on our backs allowing the use of kites whenever the wind is strong enough. The route goes from Pond to Tay Inlet to Paquet Bay. From Paquet bay there is a series of valleys to Coutts Inlet, down Coutts Inlet and over the Weber-Aller Pass into Icy Arm. From Icy Arm, past Livingston Island, to Buchan Gulf to Maud harbour, Patterson Inlet, Bergy Bar to Dexterity Fiord. Over the Bruce Mountains to Clarke Fiord to Gibbs Fiord, to Refuge Harbour into Stewart Valley to Sam Ford Fiord and on to Pond Inlet. Total distance about 700 kilometers. Using the wind, (and there is always wind of Baffin Island) it is possible to kite-ski many of the open fiords.
Participants must have kite-skiing and skiing experience.
Date: April – May 2013 Estimate time: 21 days
